Sorority Life 101 (Part 3)

The Spa
If you are not an attacker, then ignore the spa. Pretend it does not exist. If all you want to do is organize events, play dress up with your avatar, talk to sisters, and get some of the achievements, then you don't need the spa. "But SIN! When they attack me, I get depressed! I can't play when I'm depressed!" Yes you can! You just can't ATTACK when you're depressed! AND, if you're depressed or in the spa, you won't get attacked. BUT, if you go to the spa and pay the spa money, then you are actually getting OUT of the spa. You're not staying in it! So, if you are not an attacker, then the best thing you can do is stay in the spa by NOT paying for treatment and save your money. If you ARE an attacker, then I would only use the spa sparingly and when you are getting good money from attacking.

"But SIN, there have been times when my confidence was under 20% and I couldn't attack, but others could attack me!" You don't stay in the spa forever. When your confidence is under 20% of your max confidence, you are in the spa and cannot be attacked. So, if your max confidence is 100, you go to the spa at 19, and come OUT of the spa at 20. If your max confidence is 200, you go to the spa at 39, and come out at 40. And your confidence regenerates every 3 minutes or 2:42 depending on your character type. YOU CANNOT STAY IN THE SPA FOREVER! People cannot attack you when you're in the spa, but they CAN stalk you and wait until the moment you come out of the spa and then attack you again to depress you or put you back in the spa. And this is perfectly acceptable by the rules of the game. Yes, I said that stalking your character and waiting until you are out of the spa to attack you again, and again, and again is perfectly allowed in the game. Please do not report this behavior.

The "My House" tab
If you click on "My House," you will see all of your friends. That is where you invite them to be a part of your house. And, you can also accept other people's invites there as well. If you want to view the people who are in your house, click "view xxx members". There, you will see everyone who is in your house. If you have any boarders, it will say, for instance, at the top "(4 boarders) (500 Active)." That means that you have at least 500 sisters and 4 boarders. You can only fight with 5x your level up to level 100. Even if you have over 1,000 sisters in your house, you can STILL only fight with up to 500 sisters unless you have boarders. So, if you're a level 23, you can fight with 115 sisters because 23 times 5 is 115. But, if you are, for instance, a level 101, you will fight with up to 500 sisters unless you have boarders. If you do have boarders, then you can fight with up to 505 sisters if you have 5 boarders and at least 500 sisters. If you're level 102, you can fight with up to 510 sisters if you have 10 boarders and at least 500 sisters. For step by step instructions on how to add somebody to your house, accept invites and other house related topics, read the How To's of SL. Pay close attention to posts 2 and 3 because those are about adding sisters to your house.

The "Myself" tab and Extra Characters
Each time you level up, you get 3 skill points. Plus, several of the masteries give you skill points. These are very valuable and should not (normally) be saved. There are exceptions to this rule, but I'm not going to go into them here, so for all intensive puposes, do not save your skill points. To help you figure out where you should be spending your skill points, please read Choosing a Character Type. On the myself tab, you can also see how close you are to your next level. This is also where you can start a new character (mini).

In this game, you can have up to 10 characters on the same account. That means that your one myspace, facebook, tagged or hi5 account can have ten characters on it. But, only one character is active at a time. Saved, or "sleeping" characters do not gain money, confidence, stamina or energy while they are sleeping. Only your active account does this. BUT, your sleeping characters also cannot be attacked - only the active one can. For pros and cons about extra characters, read Pros and Cons of Secondary Characters.

My Style
This is where you can dress your avatar in different outfits. If you're on Myspace, you have the wardrobe feature where you can layer your clothes and mix and match your outfits. If you are on Facebook, Tagged or Hi5, this feature is not yet available. WHAT YOUR AVATAR IS WEARING DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON FIGHTS!!! You could wear your formal dress with the generic shoes and go bald if you want to. Your character is NOT affected by what you wear, so there is no strategy involved whatsoever in deciding what to wear! Chances are, it's not even going to get you more votes, since most people simply vote for their sisters no matter what they are wearing, so you could wear the most hideous outfit in your wardrobe and still probably get roughly the same amount of votes. Therefore, you can pretty much wear whatever you want to and still be successful in this game.

The Catwalk
If you click on the catwalk, you will see 3 people standing there. You can vote for whichever one you like the best, if you wish. BUT, if you hear your sisters say on the broadcasts, "vote for me on the catwalk," they are NOT talking about those three people. The three people on the actual catwalk are chosen randomly. Your sisters are actually talking about the list to the right of the catwalk. That is the list of the people who have gotten the most votes that day. Yes, it's a popularity contest and usually has nothing to do with fashion.

The In Crowd
The "In Crowd" is a list of the people who do the best in the game in specific categories of the game:

Queen Bee - Won the most fights
Most Vicious - Depressed the most people
Most Popular - Has the most sisters. For weekly ratings, it is how many people you have added to your house that week.
Burn List Vigilante - Has taken down the most people off the burn list.

There are lists for regional, everyone, weekly and all-time.

FAQ and Reporting Abuse
The FAQ section (on Facebook, it's a "?") has a lot of useful information in it! If you have been wondering something about the game, chances are, it's listed there in that section. For a copy of all of the FAQ's from the game, read In-Game FAQ's - All in one handy dandy place!

On the FAQ tab, you can report abuse. There are several things you can report somebody for. If their name is inappropriate, go to their stats page and click "report inappropriate name." If somebody leaves a racist, threatening, vulgar or harrassing message on your stats page, you can report that too. On Facebook and Tagged, there is a button that looks like a triangle with a ! in the middle of it. That's the report button. Click there to report that comment. On Myspace, you have to go to FAQ, click "support," then click "report inappropriate behavior," and then submit your report. DO NOT REPORT SOMEBODY FOR ATTACKING YOU IN THE GAME!!! The more reports that Playdom (the company who designed Sorority Life and other apps) gets that are not valid reports, the longer it takes to get to the REAL reports that NEED to be taken care of! For more information on this, read How to Report Inappropriate Behavior.

There's a lot to learn about this game, and that's what (IMO) makes it fun and exciting! Trying different character types, setting different goals and trying to accomplish them, or just playing the game the way YOU want to play are all aspects to this game that can be very enjoyable! The thing is, since this is a game of strategy, there's usually something new to learn about the game! If you have any questions about any aspect of the game, let me know!

Sorority Life 101 (Part 2)

OK, now, you've created a character and know some of the basics about the game. But, "how do I play?" you ask?! OK, here are some good pointers to keep in mind! I have taken each tab that runs across the top of the game and broken it down for you!

Main
On the "main" tab, this is where you can chat with your sisters, see who has attacked/slapped you, and see the new (or not so new) announcements about the game.

Socialize
On the "Socialize" tab, this is where you complete events to gain money, influence and glam items. If you are an organizer, this will be the primary thing that you do. If you are a bounty hunter, you will want to refrain from doing too many events. Events give lots of influence points, and bounty hunters usually want to stay low as long as they can. If you're an attacker, you should be doing events that give lots of skill points and the scandia pillow and starbucks card. The scandia pillow gives you an additional 5 energy points. These points will NOT increase the energy you currently have, but WILL increase your max number of energy points that you can get. The Starbucks card gives you an additional 3 stamina points. Again, it won't increase the number of stamina that you currently have, but it WILL increase the max number of stamina you can get. THERE IS NOTHING THAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN! YOU DO NOT "USE" THESE THINGS - THEY JUST SIT IN YOUR LOOT. IGNORE THEM. For a list of other Mastery Rewards, read Mastery Rewards.

Your Job
When you first start, save the 5 grand to be a Dining Hall Assistant if you plan to take your time during the first 5 levels or save for the 20 grand to be a Barista if you plan on leveling quickly. Don't be a dog walker. It's a waste of your $1,000 because you're not going to make that thousand back by the time you can afford to upgrade to either Dining Hall Assistant or Barista. Basically, if you take the job as a Dining Hall Assistant, plan on spending more than 34 hours in levels 1-5. If you plan to level quicker than that, then save the 20 grand to be a Barista. You will need to be a Barista for at least 40 hours before going to level 10 in order to get your money back. If you are planning to level to 20 in a day, don't bother getting a job until you get to level 20 - you'll be wasting your money if you get a job during that time. After that, it's very important that you have the best job available at all times. Saving your money for the next job for when it becomes available is always a wise decision. For a list of jobs, what levels they become available at, and other information about them, read Jobs.

The Bank
The bank is where you can put your money and have it be safe from attacks. The catch is that it costs 10% to put your money there. But, if you leave it out and don't have a stellar defense, then you'll lose more than that in attacks. You can only put up to 1 million dollars in the bank per level. So, if you're a level 26, you can save up to $26,000,000. For a list of advantages and disadvantages of banking, read Banking vs. Not Banking.

House Mom and Brownie Points
Brownie Points are a very fun part of the game! There are many things you can buy with Brownie Points that you can't get otherwise, such as full energy, stamina or confidence refils, extra cash, limited edition items, and boarders. The House Mom tab is where you can see how many Brownie Points you have, and also purchase brownie points or do offers and surveys to earn more. Brownie Points are what support this game in order to keep it running and keep it free for us to play. Things such as people's salaries, utility bills and other expenses must be paid so that this game can exist. Without Brownie Point sales, this game would not exist, or it would cost a fee to play. Therefore, we will never be able to purchase them with SL money. For more on this, read The Purpose of Brownie Points and Why They Cannot Ever Be Free.

The Fight Tab
There are two tabs under the Fight Tab. There's "Rival Attack" and "The Burn List." When you first go to the fight tab, it will automatically go to the "Rival Attack" page. But, if you click on "Burn List" you will be taken to the burn list where you will often see the words: "It's such a nice day out that everyone seems to have put their differences aside. Check back in a few moments though because things can only get more interesting." This means that there is nobody on the burn list at that exact second. BUT, that can change at any time! People are always being put on the burn list, but they go really fast because there are millions of players trying to get the same burns that you are. So, if you want to try to catch a burn, your best option is to refresh your screen constantly. When somebody comes up, attack. If you're lucky, you'll get the bounty. BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU WON THE FIGHT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU WON THE BOUNTY!!! You must be the lucky person who takes their confidence to zero. And, you don't have to win the fight in order to take their confidence to zero (but it does help because the more damage you do, the greater your chance of taking that last confidence point). For more on bounty hunting, read Building a Bounty Hunter.

Glam
Glam is very important in this game. The more glam you have for your sisters to fight with, the better off you will be. You should have an accessory, an outfit and a ride for every sister up to 5x your level. For a list of all glam items, read the Glam Guide. YOU DO NOT FIGHT WITH THE GLAM THAT YOUR SISTERS OWN!!! YOU must own glam, and your sisters will use YOUR glam when you attack or are attacked by somebody else. YOU DO NOT USE THE SAME GLAM WHEN YOU ATTACK AS YOU DO WHEN SOMEBODY ATTACKS YOU!!! Glam high in charm is good for when you attack other people. Popularity glam is good for when others attack you. For a breakout of what glam you should own at each level for your character type, read Glam 101.

Sorority Life 101 (Part 1)

So many of us here have been playing SL or other apps for SO long that we forget what it's like to NOT know the terminology that we use daily, or not know the common things that we take for granted about the game. So, I'm attempting to think like a newbie who's never played the game before. If the things I say are still confusing, or you still don't understand something about the game, please let me know and ask me to add it! Chances are, if you're confused about it, others are too!

Step 1: Choose a name
Most of the good names are taken. So, if you're trying to choose a name and it just erases whatever you just wrote and doesn't go forward to the next page, that means that the name you chose has already been taken. Try a different name. Use things like "syster" for sister, or "4ever 2gether," and other various spellings of things. Or, add a number on the end or in the middle. Just get creative!

Step 2. Select a Character Type
You can choose Socialite, Diva or Heiress. Divas gain energy faster, Socialites gain confidence faster, and Heiresses gain money faster. If you are going to be an attacker, choose Socialite or heiress. If you want to be a bounty hunter, choose Socialite. If you want to be an organizer, choose either Heiress or Diva.

Step 3. Add sisters
You need to have 5x your level in sisters AT ALL TIMES! You're NOT going to do well at this game if you don't have a full house. Add as many sisters as you can! If you don't, then you'll get attacked and will lose a lot of money (unless you can get to the game EVERY hour to bank) because somebody with a smaller house can rarely withstand an attack from somebody with a full house! To add sisters, check out the add me/join my house section of the forum!

Step 4. Decide what kind of character you want to be.
"OK SIN, you just said in step 2 to choose a character type. You're repeating yourself, right?" Well, not exactly. You are either an heiress, a diva or a socialite, but beyond that, there are other things to consider. You can either be an attacker, a bounty hunter, an organizer or a "hybrid" organizer/attacker. If this is your first character, I suggest either attacker or organizer. Hybrids and bounty hunters are the hardest to maintain, and if you don't have a lot of experience with SL or other apps, then there are things you will learn along the way that will help you with this type of character later on. Luckily, you can have up to 10 characters, so once you think you've got the hang of it, you can try your hand at these character types. If you want step by step instructions on how to do this, read Choosing a Character Type.

Sorority Life - cheats and tips

Sorority life is a Facebook or MySpace game that plays very similar to Mafia Wars, but in Sorority life you play as a sister in a college sorority house, not a street thug. Many of the strategies of the game will be the same as in Mafia Wars. Everybody wants to build a strong character that will win lots of fights, have tons of glam and level up fast. Here are some tips on leveling up your character fast, and also a few cheats that will make it that much easier to build the strongest house in Sorority Life.

First of all, to progress to the higher levels you are going to need a lot of sisters in your house, there's a few ways you can go about adding sisters in Sorority Life. First of all, you can send invites to your friends, but you will probably not get as many sisters as you would like that way. In Sorority Life you can add up to 500 sisters, you probably don;t have that many friends interested in joining your Sorority Life house.
The best way to add lots of sisters fast is to go to spuko.com. Spuko is a site built to let people add friends that already play Sorority Life (and many other social games), simply go to the site and sign up as interested in getting more friends that play Sorority Life, of browse the people who are already registered and add them as friends. This way you can build up your house to have 500 sisters with just a little bit of work.
To level up, the best way is to do a lot of socializing. I have found that at the lower levels, the best way to advance quickly through the levels is to do the costume party event over and over. With a little practice you should be able to get all 10 items every time, earning you cool glam and cash, but most importantly, 5 influence points for just 2 energy points. As you level up, increase the energy of your character. Don't worry about the fighting skills yet, especially not if you already have used spuko to build a massive house. Sticking with this strategy you will make level 10 in a matter of minutes.

As you reach higher levels, and have added more sisters to your house. The best event for leveling up is 'Stage a Musical Production'. This event requires at least 4 sisters in your house, and three wigs. Make sure you have these requirements! For just 6 energy points you get 30 influence points in return, making it easy to fly through the levels.

Cheats
When you are doing the Costume Party event, you will be able to read the list of the ten items you need to find through the curtain before the game starts. Go over the list and memorize the things you need to find, after a few times playing the game, you will start to remember where all the different items are and you should be able to finish the event in record times, earning you some cool glam that can't be bought for money in Sorority Life.

To get as many brownie points as you want, take advantage of the free offers. It is important that you never use your real email address when completing these 'offers' as they are all just a bunch of scams to get your contact information. Set up an account with a throw away email site, like disposeamail.com. Most of the offers will also require a valid address and phone number. I like to use the yellow pages and search for DMV offices in various states.

Finally, there is a Sorority Bot that you can set to play the game for you. It will handle the fighting, and socializing for you automatically, and can really make you fly through the game. To learn how to use the bot, check out this video:

These Sorority Life cheats and tips should make it a lot easier to build a strong house that wins every fight and has the best glam and rides.
